Withdrawals

How to withdraw from your WaterX account, and the multi-layer security behind it.

Overview

Withdrawing burns your USD balance 1:1 back into a supported stablecoin, sent to your specified address.

Withdrawals currently support withdrawing to Sui (USDC or USDsui). Cross-chain withdrawal to other chains such as Ethereum and Arbitrum is coming soon.

Withdrawal Caps & Protocol Review

To protect all users' assets, WaterX applies rolling 24-hour caps on instant withdrawals:

Cap Type
Description

Per-account cap

Maximum a single account can withdraw instantly within a rolling 24-hour window

Protocol cap

Maximum protocol-wide instant withdrawals within a rolling 24-hour window, scaled dynamically to protocol size

When an instant withdrawal exceeds a cap, it is not rejected — it enters a protocol review process and is released once the account's activity is confirmed to be normal. The purpose of this mechanism is to prevent an attacker from draining user funds in a single action in the event of a compromised account or leaked private key. Review typically completes within 24 hours.

Tip: Everyday withdrawal amounts won't hit these caps and complete instantly. Only a single large withdrawal, or a large amount within a short window, may enter protocol review.

Multi-Layer Security

Every withdrawal request passes through multiple security checks that protect both the protocol and user assets:

Layer
Check
If Not Passed

System status

Whether the protocol is in a global pause

Withdrawals rejected during a pause

Cap check

Whether the per-account / protocol 24-hour instant cap is exceeded

Enters protocol review

Reserve health

Whether a stablecoin is significantly depegged or NAV is abnormal

Triggers a pause

Liquidity check

Whether the destination chain has sufficient reserves

Suggests switching withdrawal chain or waiting for daily rebalance

Note: Entering protocol review instead of rejecting is intentional. Under normal conditions, a large withdrawal simply goes through one extra review step and typically completes within 24 hours. In the extreme case of a compromised private key, the same mechanism limits how much an attacker can extract in a short period, protecting user assets. Details on NAV monitoring and the circuit breaker are in Unified Liquidity & WaterX USD.

Cross-Chain Withdrawal (Coming Soon)

Withdrawing to other chains such as Ethereum and Arbitrum is in development. Once available:

  • Withdraw to Sui: released instantly from Sui reserves (1:1)

  • Withdraw to another chain: released via the cross-chain layer from that chain's reserves, requiring additional wait time and subject to its reserve balance

  • If the destination chain has insufficient reserves, the system prompts you to switch chains or wait for the daily rebalance

Key takeaway: Withdrawals burn 1:1 back to a stablecoin, charge a 0.1% fee (discountable or removable under a future tier system), with a $10 minimum. To Sui is instant; other chains add wait time once launched. Instant withdrawals have rolling 24-hour caps — exceeding a cap sends the withdrawal to protocol review (typically completing within 24 hours) rather than rejecting it, preventing attackers from draining user funds.
