Unified Liquidity and WaterX USD

How WaterX unifies multichain stablecoins into a single trading balance, and the reserve-protection mechanism behind it.

Why a Unified Balance

On most DeFi protocols, funds are fragmented across chains and stablecoins, creating liquidity fragmentation and operational friction. WaterX uses a unified USD balance: no matter which chain you deposit from or which supported stablecoin you use, it is credited 1:1 to a single USD balance.

This unified balance is used for:

  • Margin for Perpetual trading

  • WLP liquidity provision

  • Prediction Market settlement

You manage one balance and access every WaterX feature with it.

What is WaterX USD

To you, the balance is simply USD — what you see, use, and calculate with is USD, and you don't need to track any separate token.

Under the hood, this unified USD balance is implemented as WaterX USD, a Sui Coin standard fungible token:

Property
Description

Form

Sui Coin standard fungible token

Purpose

Unit of trading, liquidity, and settlement inside WaterX

Mint / Burn

Minted 1:1 on deposit, burned 1:1 on withdrawal

Interface display

Shown uniformly as "USD"

You never need to handle WaterX USD directly. It is minted automatically on deposit and burned on withdrawal — what you see in the interface is your USD balance.

1:1 PSM: Predictable Conversion

WaterX uses a PSM (Peg Stability Module) to convert between stablecoins and the USD balance at a fixed 1:1 rate:

Operation
Rule

Deposit mint

1 stablecoin = 1 USD balance, no fee

Withdraw burn

1 USD balance = 1 stablecoin, withdraw fee applies

Direct cross-asset swap

Not supported directly (deposit then withdraw)

A fixed 1:1 rate — rather than a floating quote — keeps conversion outcomes predictable: you always know that depositing 1 USDT yields 1 USD balance, with no variation.

WaterX continuously monitors the real reserve value backing all USD balances, expressed as NAV (Net Asset Value):

Under normal operation, every USD balance is backed by equivalent reserves and NAV = 1.0.

NAV is not used for conversion quotes (mint / burn is always 1:1). It is purely a protocol safety metric. When NAV deviates from its normal range, the system automatically triggers its protection mechanism.

Circuit Breaker

When NAV falls below a safety threshold, the system automatically pauses withdrawals and related protocol operations until conditions recover:

Scenario
Effect on NAV
System Response

Cross-chain layer exploited, minting out of thin air

Supply spikes, reserves unchanged → NAV drops

Auto-pause

Contract anomaly / bug

Reserves and supply diverge → NAV deviates

Auto-pause

Large-scale stablecoin depeg

Reserve value falls → NAV deviates

Auto-pause

How this naturally defends against attacks: Suppose the cross-chain layer is exploited and an attacker tries to mint a large USD balance with no backing reserves. The WaterX USD supply spikes instantly and NAV drops sharply, immediately tripping the circuit breaker — no human intervention or external consensus required. The protocol detects and freezes the anomaly in real time on its own.

Reserve Transparency

WaterX reserves are verifiable on-chain. Each unified balance corresponds to protocol-held stablecoin reserves across the supported source chains, continuously monitored through the NAV mechanism above.

Key takeaway: WaterX unifies multichain stablecoins 1:1 into a single USD balance (implemented as WaterX USD), converted by a fixed 1:1 PSM and protected by real-time NAV monitoring and a circuit breaker. Attacks such as minting out of thin air are immediately reflected in NAV and auto-trigger a pause.
